Thousands Evacuated as Cyclone Triggers Flooding in Andhra Pradesh

A severe cyclone struck near Ongole in the Prakasam district of Andhra Pradesh early on Tuesday and is the second cyclonic storm to hit India's eastern coastline in just a week after Cyclone Arnab. Thousands of trees have uprooted, hundreds of electric poles have fallen and fishing boats have been destroyed. The storm has also caused low lying areas to flood in the Prakasam and Bapatla districts. Luckily there have not been any reports of injuries or deaths yet but tens of thousands of people have been evacuated by the authorities. Disaster relief teams are also on standby. Heavy rain warnings have been issued for many areas across Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Odisha.
